How do I delete a relationship?

Thank you.  Yes, we're in our early days and are working hard to implement the most important features as fast as possible.  Tell me which relation you created by mistake and I'll delete it for you.

Very soon we'll have a delete button.  Sounds like a simple enough feature, but I can assure you there are good reasons why that wasn't there from the beginning.  In the meantime, simply post any deletion requests on this message board and I'll take care of them immediately.

Yes you're exactly right why we have to be so careful about the delete buttons.  I will delete the relationship you specified, but it looks like you also want me to delete the person with the unknown name as well.  You changed the name from "Tinku Sasidharan" to nothing and removed the gender, I assume in an attempt to delete the person.  Am I correct?

I am also facing a problem while adding children to a mom-dad pair. Some children are automatically assgined the mom and dad, but some are assigned only a dad. This happens even if there is only one partner/wife assigned to the dad.

For example:

The person :http://www.appletree.com/Narayanan_1" now shows two "partner" relations - both to the person "http://www.appletree.com/Bhavani_1". Could you please merge these two relations into a single one?

The same holds for "http://www.appletree.com/Parameswaran_M_1". two two partner relations for this person has to be merged. They refer to the same person "http://www.appletree.com/Rajamma_TS_1"

How do I avoid this situation in future?

Yes, that is right. I would like that person with no name removed. I have created another person by the same name and added him has the husband of "http://www.appletree.com/Parvathy_Dileep_1"

Very soon you'll be able to delete a person or merge 2 people.  I'm deleting the wife of Parvathy_S_1 right now.

For the parent-children issue, that's a problem with our flash user interface.  The problem occurs when you have a parent-child relationship and then add a spouse to that parent.  That spouse isn't also added as another parent to the child.  In order to do that you currently have to edit the profile of either the parent or the child and select the option to add a child or parent.  Then enter the profile id.  Not very intuitive I know.  Making this easy and intuitive in the flash interface is our top priority right now after a bunch of updates will be made live tomorrow.

I have merged Bhavani_1 and Bhavani_2.  I've also merged Rajamma_TS_1 with Rajamma_TS_2.  I think you'll find the tree makes a lot more sense now in those parts.

As I mentioned, fixing this user interface issue is our top priority after our upcoming update.  In the meantime, to avoid this issue simply add children after both parents are added.  When adding a child, you can click the "more" link and you'll be presented with a drop down menu of all possible parent combinations.

If there are 2 people in the tree that you need to form a relationship between, simply go to the edit profile page of one of those people.  From there you can create a relationship.  Just enter the profile id of the other person.

I truly appreciate your patience while we iron out these inefficiencies in our user interface.  Your feedback is tremendously valuable as well.  You're really helping to prioritize what gets improved and how.

Thank you very much. Yes, the tree looks cleaner now. While experimenting with it this morning, I made a few more mistakes, which I will correct myself once the delete functionality is up and running.

In my case it will probably be a lot better to just delete the entire family because in my attempt to correct it, I made it worse!

If you could delete my family I could start anew.

I appreciate your comment and absolutely agree with you that this has big potential!  I also appreciate your patience with us as we make the interface more intuitive and easier to correct mistakes.  The user interface is our top priority and I can assure you we will continuously improve it as fast as we can to make constructing our family tree of the world a fun and simple process.

Valmer and Mirriam Sables are the grandparents
They had 4 kids: Jonathan, David, Ben and Rose
Rose had 2 kids: Angela and Clara
Ben had 1 kid: Lara

Is that correct?

Yeah a delete would be nice. after I created my login I uploaded my GEDCOm file and apparently it created 2 seperate trees instead of merging me into the tree I uploaded.

those gray boxes mean the gender is unknown, simply edit their profile if you wish to change their gender.  The only thing I left there was a spouse of David Sables with an unknown name.  Let me know if he doesn't really have a spouse and need me to delete it.

Thank you for your gratitude, but I'm also very grateful.  First because I'm learning how to make our website easier to use and secondly because we need our family tree to be accurate so that it grows faster and we can really see how we're all related.  So I'm very happy to correct issues with the tree.
